Project Success Spotlight: Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)

BBEnergy has been operating a DAF unit at a food and beverage factory successfully since 2021. The DAF unit was initially installed to reduce contaminants to levels compliant with municipal waste water discharge by-law limits. By effectively removing fats, oils, and grease (FOGs) from factory waste water, we’ve ensured the discharge of wastewater meets all regulatory standards with remarkable consistency. This reduces the load on municipal waste water treatment plants and ultimately protects our precious water resources.

The DAF unit is now a critical pre-treatment step for the tertiary treatment plant with the product water reused in the factory as primary wash water in the low care receiving area.

Figure 1 – This is the Air Flotation unit that removes fat, oil and grease (FOG) by floating chemically coagulated FOG particles to the top of the DAF.

Figure 2 – At the top of the DAF the FOG particles present as a dense foam that is then floated off the top and disposed of.
